Free!!

I was browsing craigslist the other day, just looking at what was listed in the "free" department. I found this ugly dresser with only one drawer. But thought maybe I could turn it into something useful. And Tyler said if I couldn't he'd just use it for shop fire wood. So it was a win-win pickup.

It needed shelves in the other slots in order to be useful, so I used leftover pieces from when we made the baseboard moulding for our house. Great use for them and another "free" aspect!

I am always attracted to dark blues and reds when I'm in the paint section at Wal-Mart or Home Depot, but I thought since it was for the closet, I'd break out of the mold. I went for a light bluish periwinkle.

I had to move the upper shelf in my closet up, even out of sight I guess, but it seems to have been worth that loss of space. I moved the sheets that were up there into the drawer and the trunk.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with my new organized closet for $6 worth of paint!

Vintage Lamps

I found a couple of older lamps at Habitat for Humanity the other day for $2 a piece. I'd been needing lamps for the living room for a while so decided to take a chance on them. I didn't know if they worked or not, and I wasn't in love with their colors, but they do match a set of vintage bowls I have. I got them home, plugged them in, and they worked! I started looking more closely at them and realized they were both originally yellow and the blue one had been repainted.

So I bought some lampshades at Fred Meyers yesterday and tried this clearance one on the yellow one. I'm still not sold on it but for now it's a functioning light for our guest room.
Then I used up some matte colonial red spray paint I had leftover from my numerous other red projects I've done and painted the blue lamp. I was really impressed by the way it turned out! And it looks great in the living room and adds a wonderful homey feel.
The shades were $6 and $13 each, so for about $24 I have two great lamps. Even at Wal-Mart, for the cheapest, smallest, "accent" light I would have spent about $22 for a base and shade, so I think I made out pretty well!

Flower Power!

I got on a roll making headband/hairclip flowers and just couldn't stop! I am hoping to get a real website for my photography before too long, and am planning to always include a headband or clip in baby girl shoots...calling them the Babies and Buds package. So here's the pile of flowers I just finished up....

Owl Quilt

I started this quilt a couple of months ago, I only have to sew on the binding and it will be finished! The owls are each a little bit unique and are machine appliquéd onto blue polka dot flannel. So sorry I have been slacking on this. It is hard to be crafty when you live in a dorm. I do my best though. I think my next project will be tiny feather hair clips...we will see what I come up with for that:)

Serving Tray

I don't even remember where I saw this project but I've been wanting to do it for a while. So on Thursday when Will and I were a little stir crazy we took a late afternoon trip down to Habitat for Humanity. I only found the one door that was the right size and contour. And I couldn't find any matching drawer pulls but maybe the mismatched look is better anyways. So here is the finished product. I always forget to take pictures of the process. Ok, Annke, now you are two posts behind! What are you doing? Surely school, bus driver training, and moving across the country are not good enough exuses for not having a crafting day! Just kidding!!!!

Virtual Reality ;-)

Since we have been separated by a thousand + miles, Anneke and I can no longer hold our crafty-lady days. So we created a blog so that we can virtually share our projects with each other. I guess I'll go first and post my trunk project several months in the making....Grrr, I can't seem to swipe my own pictures off of facebook, and the early stages of this project are on my old laptop. Ok, so just one picture of the finished project for this post. Guess I better get to crafting so I can post more....tag, you're it Anneke!
